Do I need to bring my own mat or props?
Nope! We have mats and props available for use at no cost. You are of course welcome to bring your own mat or props if you’d prefer.
How do I pre-register for a class?
Registering for a class is easy! Use the “classes” link above to see our weekly class schedule and class descriptions. Instructions for signing up are found at the top of the page. You will need to create an account through our scheduling software, KarmaSoft, which will require an email address.
Do I have to sign up for class online to attend?
Although students are encouraged to sign up online, you are welcome to drop-in without pre-registering. If you attend a class as a drop-in, we encourage you to check the class status on our website schedule or our social media accounts (Instagram and/or Facebook) for any last minute cancellations.
How do I find the studio?
Our studio is located in downtown Houghton, MI at 222 Shelden Ave Suite 3. We don’t have a big storefront, but we do have a big sign! The front door to our space is located just off the sidewalk between The Print Shop (to the right) and The Den (just down to the left). Open the front door, climb the set of stairs, and our direct studio door is the first on the left. You’ll see chairs and a small table (okay it’s a stool but still) just outside in the hallway. When class is in session, please wait patiently outside the studio and we’ll let you in when we’re done.
What happens if class is cancelled?
As much as we try to avoid it, last minute cancellations (aka life) happen. Students who have pre-registered for class will receive electronic communication informing them of the cancellation as soon as possible. You can also check the class status on our website schedule or social media accounts (Instagram and/or Facebook). Anyone who has purchased a pass for the class will keep that pass in their account for use at a future date.
How early should I arrive for class?
Instructors are usually in studio 15-30 minutes prior to class and you are welcome to arrive anytime in that window. We ask that if you arrive before the end of an earlier class, please wait quietly and patiently in the hallway until the class is over. A sign will be placed outside the studio if class in session. We all love those undisturbed Savasana minutes, so please do your part to let your fellow practitioners embrace the end of class.
Can I still come to class if I’m running late?
Yes! The door will be closed but you are welcome to quietly and mindfully find a spot in the room. We’ll handle check-in and payment after class is over.
Where should I park?
Great question. Although the loss of the parking deck has made parking tricky, it is certainly not impossible. There are many spots behind the studio on the waterfront, along the main street, and in the bi-level parking deck just down the road. If you are worried about parking, feel free to arrive early and give yourself ample time. (Also, see “Can I still come to class if I’m running late?” above.)
We understand it can feel intimidating to learn new poses and vocabulary in a community space. If you ever find that a particular shape or flow isn’t for you, we encourage you to honor your body and modify the posture to make it yours. This might include using a prop creatively (even if your instructor isn’t - we’re cool with it, we promise!), chilling in Child’s pose when the class is moving or keeping both feet on the ground rather than compromising your balance. We always encourage you to make sure your practice is safe first and foremost, and to choose the level of challenge that feels right. Never hesitate to ask for clarification on poses or words that are confusing, even during class. We’re here to help!
What if I don’t know a pose or word the instructor is using? Or if it’s not safe for my body to do?
Is there a bathroom or place to change?
Yes! We share a public bathroom with our business neighbors that can be used as a space to change as well.
